Mathematics
I never really understands mathematics. Sure, I could solve the equations provided I know which equations to use, but the bone is, which equation to use when it is not specified? Some questions in examinations, like in my Form Six STPM ( 'O' Level Equivelant) Additional Maths, were so tough (to me) that I can't make heads or tail of it. For starters, you had to identify what kind of problem it is. Problem is, nobody taught me what kind of problem requires what kind of approach.
Second, after identifiying the problem, you are expected to use one of the multitude of equations to derive an answer which to me is totally unrelated to the question at hand. And lastly, why is the particular equation is used was never told me, or taught in school. The last point is particularly important, since as students, it is important for us to know the history of an equation, why it was created, what kind of problems was it created to solve, and what is the logical progression of its proof. See, we never had these kind of education, which in any other field, is equally important. Important enough for us to use as base to build our own knowledge.
But this is not the case in today's education system. They seems to want more and more degree holders. Just that, degree holders, just a holder of a piece of worthless paper. I remember somewhere long time ago when having a degree means you are a head above your peers, educated, learned, and wise. Now, it just means that you are rich enough to buy that piece of paper and ink. Or in some cases, officially sanctioned to get them.
So how best to learn mathematics? Well, knowing what I know and what I didn't know until recently, I'ld say, start at the basics. How many of you really know the basis of mathematics? Who invented it? What it studies? Is it science or art? Is it philosophical or experimental? You see, if you were taught these things, and it won't even take long, you have a basic understanding and appreciation of mathematics as a whole, and in taking that understanding, apply it to everyday life, or just for further education. Is it really so hard to do?

oh i'd run a mile away from maths if i could... i am just not good with abstract concepts in maths... *blush*
and yet ur doing statistics, which is an abstract branch of mathematics. and to make it more complicated, u combined it with...biology?
