Repository of Knowledge
Hello...good day to you Library of Congress.
Must be wondering why I said the things I did just now. Simple, I just found out that the US Library of Congress is archiving the websites of the world. That includes blogs and other information that does not require registration for access, pay sites or otherwise blocked access sites. It is done primarily in collaboration with Internet Archive. Internet Archive is the largest depository of World Wide Web sites that I know of with to date 85 billion pages documented and archived. So, anything that was ever posted, published or otherwise released on the Web for the past years are here. Even deleted sites.
Why am I interested in this you might ask...if you're reading this. One reason actually... a Repository of Knowledge. Simply put, I am looking for the sum of all human knowledge. A list, an index or just a guide of all the websites, books, productions or works that was ever produced since the dawn of human history. Is there such a thing? I wish there is. Would be nice if the sum of collective human knowledge is collected and stored someplace safe, waiting for the day where it will survive the destructive human destiny.
Before now, I tried to make a simple repository of knowledge by myself, but even I knew that such an undertaking is huge, requiring many years of effort. The act of compiling histories of various dynasties of ancient China took one Chinese minister the better part of his life. He was Sima Qian. His work is Shiji (Records of the Grand Historian).
No matter. I am not disheartened that someone is already doing what I set out to do myself. In fact, I rejoice at the fact that somebody else out there is concerned about the future of human knowledge. Now, I settle myself down to produce my own mini Repository of Knowledge; a home library.
