New Mall...New hope?

Singapore welcomes her latest new mall...right opposite Sentosa Island, admist bustling sealanes and port. It is reputed to be the only big mall in neighbourhood areas, although how much of Harbour Front area is a neghbourhood area is unknown.

Pretty interior decoration for young and oldThe crowd even after two weeks

Singapore being Singapore, has a very finicky passangers. They want something new, and they expect something new every few years, some even every few months. So when VivoCity came along, and hot on its heel several years behind is the Marina Bay Intergrated Resort and Sentosa Intergrated Resort, things can get very boring very fast. Now, two weeks into its operation here in Harbour Front, the majority of the outlets has yet to open. All of them walled up behind sanitised white partitions with posters advertising the coming outlets. And from the looks of things, assuming that all the outlets are up and running, it is even bigger than Suntec City Mall and Raffles Place combined. Add to that access to the sea overlooking Sentosa Island, AND easy access TO Sentosa, VivoCity looks set to be Singaporean's next second best friend...after Orchard Road.

Here's hope for it not to become a pretty white elephant.

Mathematics

I never really understands mathematics. Sure, I could solve the equations provided I know which equations to use, but the bone is, which equation to use when it is not specified? Some questions in examinations, like in my Form Six STPM ( 'O' Level Equivelant) Additional Maths, were so tough (to me) that I can't make heads or tail of it. For starters, you had to identify what kind of problem it is. Problem is, nobody taught me what kind of problem requires what kind of approach.

Second, after identifiying the problem, you are expected to use one of the multitude of equations to derive an answer which to me is totally unrelated to the question at hand. And lastly, why is the particular equation is used was never told me, or taught in school. The last point is particularly important, since as students, it is important for us to know the history of an equation, why it was created, what kind of problems was it created to solve, and what is the logical progression of its proof. See, we never had these kind of education, which in any other field, is equally important. Important enough for us to use as base to build our own knowledge.

But this is not the case in today's education system. They seems to want more and more degree holders. Just that, degree holders, just a holder of a piece of worthless paper. I remember somewhere long time ago when having a degree means you are a head above your peers, educated, learned, and wise. Now, it just means that you are rich enough to buy that piece of paper and ink. Or in some cases, officially sanctioned to get them.

So how best to learn mathematics? Well, knowing what I know and what I didn't know until recently, I'ld say, start at the basics. How many of you really know the basis of mathematics? Who invented it? What it studies? Is it science or art? Is it philosophical or experimental? You see, if you were taught these things, and it won't even take long, you have a basic understanding and appreciation of mathematics as a whole, and in taking that understanding, apply it to everyday life, or just for further education. Is it really so hard to do?

Sheet

It was a dark and stormy night. Demons of yore comes out and feast. Creatures of the dark creep on the silent streets, terrifiying motorist who don't switch on their headlights. Mothers wear crosses over their mouth and nose, covering the white devil from approaching, from entering, and devour them from within. Streaks of light cast shadows as people, a former shadow of themselves, walked in the fog of uncertainty. Men of power are powerless to control this vast inately superior force of nature. All they can do is wait, and wag their fingers.....at Indonesia's FOREST FIRE!!!

The haze is back, with a vengence. In one day, city coast to coast are smothered by it, clamouring for attention from its inddiferent natives. But all too soon to, it will change when the natives found their courage and voice to speak as one and condemn Indonesia for its inability to control its own people. Some brave and uttely inconsiderate souls might even call this act...deliberate, although what manner of benefits that can be gained from such inhuman ochestra of misfortunes, is beyond even my wildest imaginations, but there is one this that many people do know; when the haze is back, put on your mask!

ACS Unofficial Forum Bash 2006

Well, starting from this post onward...and maybe a few post before, I have decided not to post any personal rantings and what have you in the interest of preserving for myself my good image of a good lecturer...NOT! I am still complaining! But in the light of new events, like the recently concluded birthday bash or gala or gathering, wateva lu sukak lar, some photos from that day will show my displeasure of getting stuck in the second worst traffic jam in this year!

Me and my pal at the party, goofing around...like I always do. He can't stand it. LOL!

The presents there, which by the way, I did not win any. Nevermind lor, fun seeing all the people there.

The year of 1997 pose it out! Hell yeah baby!

All of which took place here...

But all the fun and games above; the 1-2-som competition which I lost, the unlucky lucky draw (my friend should've washed his hand :( ), and the cute kids parading around in lanterns; it all come crashing down the next day when I'm trying to catch my bus to Singapore. Notice that I said TRY becouse believe it or not, the goddamn bus was freaking late for 45 minutes!!!

By the time I was on the bus, I was pissed! And damn near pissing into the driver's mouth! Grrrrrr!!!!!

But nevermind, I got myself a good buck to quench the fire within. Heheheh. So, all in all, not so bad day.
