World Cyber Games 2005

Hello to you all again to this boring blog. A chronicle today is regarding the Wrold Cyber Games 2005, the Olympic of computer and video gaming. This is a really exciting event for many who attend the competition today. Not only did I witness two of the world's best Starcraft players battling it out to the death (Korean vs Korean, and Silent_Control won against Xellos_kr), I also bear witness to an exciting match between local favorite, one young lad from Singapore competing against Japan's best in Dead or Alive video game. Japan came out tops despite the loud cheering for the home team. All in all, a really exciting event, which I will write more of tomorrow, the last day of the event. The official logo for the event. Notice the rings? They resemble the Olympic ring, and to me, this is really THE Olympic of gaming!
The two commentators for the Starcraft event, both of which are players themselves competitng in the tournament as well.
One of the models/panoramas up for display to win cool cash prizes.
But nothing could beat this shot; a really close up of Fiona Xie and that guy from Yummy Yummy doing a promo shot...or something. Bottomline, I don't care what they do, I got a close up of Fiona Xie!!!
Jealous lehhh? I got a really close up of Fiona Xie and I walked behind her oh so pretty back for a few seconds. I can't go on longer (or follow her to lunch) 'coz I hate to get sued for harrasements. :p
Ahhhhhh, these pretty ladies are sporting enough to let me take a nice photo of them. Hmmm, Will try again tomorrow for nicer pose.
Oh my GOD! Thse two are soooooo sweeeeet!!!

Nice things.....to me. :D

These are some of the pretty sights the captured my eyes. I try to provide description of the view, but some places I forgot the name already, but do enjoy the scenery. This is taken near the entrance to a princely garden. Sadly, I didn't get the chance to go in.
The Imperial Rock Garden. Very beautifully shaped rock formations around the garden, interpersed with old and stately trees and elegant buildings. No wonder the Emperor loves to come here.
You've seen the church in the night, now see it in the glory sunshine or the morning Sun.
The Dragon walkway of the Emperor. The path is alligned almost perfectly North-South. This is facing the South overlooking the Meridian Gate. Note the five bridges.
Tiananmen Square as seen from the top of Tiananmen. The world's largest public Square. Stories told of how a million people could fit in here with enough elbow room for comfort.
One of the many pavilions seen through a bamboo grove.

Lunch Dinner and Supper

Right, Lilian reminded me about forgetting to put up my lunch and dinner photos, so here it is, with supper photo to boot.Beijing style Black Pepper Spare Ribs.
Fried mantou with sweetened condensed milk.
Steamed mantou with fillings of lamb, pork, chicken or beef.
And finnally, water dumplings. Assorted flavours. I counted 20+. This is one of them.

Well, hello there. Yesterday the Forbidden City where the Emperor lives, today the Great Wall of China, where millions of Chinese live contained within its walls. The Great Wall, also known as the Wall of 10 000 li was built upon much sweat and blood...its contruction itself a marvel of human ingenuinity and perseverence. That day, I had the chance to scale its heights.

As the people of yore said: Should you climb it, you are a hero, should you are unable to climb it, you are a bear.

But the late Chairman Mao has this to say: Only a hero scales up the top of this walls. To give you an idea of how steep this is, my camera is level as water is level in the cup.....tilted a little of course to capture the full splendour of the top.
The Wall at a distance. Several hundred miles of it is in good condition, but here, the view of it all is the best.
A close up of the scenery. Notice the steep climb? Imagine you're a soldier stationed here...how to climb those steps in winter and with barbarians charging at you?
Finally, made it to the top. Notice the white board notice with red letterings...I have no idea what it says.
Another shot of my triumphant climb. The backdrop is of the 8th level fire beacon tower, which has since been sealed off.
This is taken from the lower level. The peak to the left is the 8th level.
Sunset over the mountains of Badaling. It's only 5pm, and in 17 minutes, it's already dark.

All in all, the Great Wall climb is the best experiance of the entire Beijing trip.

The first day in Beijing. Well, we were quite close to the Forbidden City, and we just didn't know how close, so we asked around and lo and behold, we're there before 45 minutes...by walking! To those who has not seen it, let me tell you this, it is a sight to behold! In front of Tiananmen with Mao Ze Dong. Believe it or not, many more are queuing up just to take photos from this location?
A little futher away, taken from the south of Tiananmen Square. By the way, it's so big, its the biggest in the world...the Square that is.
Another prime location, but this dude has to hog the spot.
Ahhhh, forgot what this gate is called, but it is the one before the Meridian Gate.
In the background is the Hall of Preserving Harmony. With a macro shot, I could've got a better shot, but....digicam bane.
And this is pretty damn BIG!!! The Hall of Great Harmony. The blue fences at the background right side keeps out visitors from interfering with restoration works on adjacent buildings.
The Inner Golden Stream, curved like a bow...
...connected by five bridges, with the middle one off limits to the common people. Only the Emporor is allowed to use it.
And to guard this national treasure, a contigent of guards right inside the Palace.

Food in Beijing

Starfish in Beijing night market. Are you sure you wanna eat it?

Well, they claimed this to be bull's testicles, but I do not see the alure of eating it. Gross!

Scorpions.....equally gross.

Now this si the first breakfast I had in Beijing. Nice and cheap. Good too.

My first lunch. Beijing roast duck....but it didn't taste quite the same. Pirated duck?

By far the cheapest and most filling breakfast I've had.

Okay, now I've put up something from breakfast and supper tables, tomorrow it'll be something from the dinner and lunch tables. See ya!
